As I recall Jesus said to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and last I check the borders are in Caesar’s domain. A belief in Jesus does not impose a duty to feed, give health care, and house anyone who walks across our border.
“‘Jesus was a refugee, and that’s a very good reminder to all of us,’ Eskinder Negash, director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), said at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) 2014 Migration Conference in Washington, D.C.”
I reckon that you can construe Joseph going to Egypt with Mary and baby Jesus after God told him to git as them being refugees.
“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.” Matthew 2:13-15
However, I fail to see the parallel with all of the kids being dumped upon us from all over Central America. These parents are not bringing their children with them to escape persecution, they are sending them here along, all by themselves, with no one to comfort or care for them but the paid human smugglers, Coyotes, that have about as much love in them as a snake for a mouse, they only see them as dinner. Would an appeal to Jesus sway them in any way? Ask yourself if you would abandon your child to take such a long dangerous trip with such an uncertain future? What would you think about anyone who would do something like that in the US? They would be brought up on child neglect charges at the very least. However, not all of these are the children they are made out to be.
