Gay Bullying Statistics

It has been pointed out to me that queer kids are 3 to 4 times more likely to be bullied, so in an hour or so I found these stats.  Now if it is true that in 2012 43% of all kids fear harassment in the bathroom at school, that is near half of all students who get bullied in the bathrooms.  If the percentage of queer kids mirror the percentage of queer adults think they are about 3-4 percent tops of the school population.  “Surveys show a shockingly high fraction think a quarter of the country is gay or lesbian, when the reality is that it's probably less than 2 percent.”  Americans Have No Idea How Few Gay People There Are

So if the queers are even 5 times more likely to get bullied, how many kids can that be?  If 282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month (stats below), and we allow their being 5% of the school population, then about 14,000 will be queer.  How many because they are fat?  Because they are skinny, ugly, shy, new to the school, were loners, I could go on but you get the picture.

(Health.com) – “Children in Grades 3 through 6 who are obese are more likely to be bullied than their normal-weight peers, a new study has found.” They don’t give a percentage but I am sure that there are more fat kids being bullied than queer kids by far.

Now do not misconstrue what I am saying, by no means am I saying it is alright to bully queer kids just because more fat kids are bullied or that it is alright to bully fat kids.  What I am saying is that this claim, for which there are no statistics available, come from studied run by gay activist like GLLAD and LGBT organizations and report that of the queer kids they have talked to self report having been bullied at this rate.

The studies I have been able to find does not tell how the study group was picked, the questions asked, them method taking the survey, i.e., telephone (land line or cell, or both), in person with a questioner.  How they determined if the respondent was straight or queer.  Here is an example that I have been pointed to:  Gay Bullying Statistics

In any case below Are the stats that I have been able to uncover going back to 2001.  In some years they cannot agree upon the percentage being bullied:

2013 Unable to find any stats.

2012
RECENT STATISTICS SHOW THAT:
1 out of 4 kids is Bullied.  1 out of 5 kids admits to being a bully, or doing some "Bullying."  8% of students miss 1 day of class per month for fear of Bullies. 43% fear harassment in the bathroom at school.  282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month.  More youth violence occurs on school grounds as opposed to on the way to school.  80% of the time, an argument with a bully will end up in a physical fight.  1/3 of students surveyed said they heard another student threaten to kill someone.  Playground statistics - Every 7 minutes a child is bullied. Adult intervention - 4%. Peer intervention - 11%. No intervention - 85%.

Nearly 1 in 3 students (27.8%) report being bullied during the school year (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2013).  pacer.org
In a 2011 nationwide survey, 20% of high school students reported being bullied on school property in the 12 months preceding the survey.  An estimated 16% of high school students reported in 2011 that they were bullied electronically in the 12 months before the survey.

Source: National Education Association 2011
- American schools harbor approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million of their victims. Dan Olweus, National School Safety Center. - 1 in 7 students in Grades K-12 is either a bully or a victim of bullying.

Bullying statistics 2010: New bullying statistics for 2010 revealed about one in seven students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade is either a bully or has been a victim of bullying.   (14%)  Another pole for the same year washingtonpost.com reports:  New data on bullying released today show that 17 percent of American students report being bullied two to three times a month or more within a school semester, with girls and boys having similar rates.

About a quarter of high school students were bullied at least once during the 2008-2009 school year, and about 7 percent were bullied online by other students, according to new data released Monday by the National Center for Education Statistics.
I could find no stats in-between these years.  This study came up many many more times than any other because so many other people cited it.

STATS 2001: SELECTED SCHOOL VIOLENCE RESEARCH FINDINGS FROM 2001 SOURCES

1 out of 4 kids is Bullied.  The American Justice Department says that this month 1 out of every 4 kids will be abused by another youth.  Surveys Show That  77%  of students are bullied mentally, verbally, & physically.  And According to a 2001 national survey of parents and kids by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Nickelodeon, 74 percent of eight- to 11-year-old students said teasing and bullying regularly occur at their schools, while only about half of parents in this survey saw bullying as a problem for their children.
