These, the Hot Dog Days of Summer.

July 3rd marked the beginning of the “Dog Days of Summer,”

These, the dog days of summer
We are winding through the dog days
caniculares dies
Where Sirius the "Dog Star"
Rises and set with the sun
from July 3 to August 11
An evil time "when the seas boiled,
Wine turned sour, dogs grew mad,
And all creatures became languid,
Causing to man burning fevers,
Hysterics, and phrensies"
So they said of old.
The brightest of the stars in
Canis Major (the big dog) is
Sirius, which also happens to
Be the brightest star in the night sky.
On to September 23rd
The last day of summer,
But for those who went back to school
It came early
And left not fall
But a dream of summer gone.
And we, with but a few days left
Curse the heat that lingers on
Past its appointed time.
Wanting to get out and run, work and play
They have been way too many
Air-conditioned days.
Now working down
To equal day to equal night
Then on into shorter and days
And colder and colder
Until in the depth of winter
We pray for those hot Dog summer Days.
