On the lonesome road
He walks alone
Among the many
He walks among.
Like a shadow,
No more then a wrath.
Not looking for company,
Just looking for the last place he will see.
He greets you
Engages in banal chit chat,
And with out showing his soul
He moves on.
Alone.
Back at his place,
Which he will no longer call home,
Like a ghost he drifts around.
Feeding the chickens,
Feeding the horses,
Feeding the dogs.
He feeds himself,
But the food has no taste.
All joy has left his life.
He’s achieved all
He ever dreamed,
But with her gone
It is all empty
And
He is alone
No matter where he goes
Or what he does.
Still he clings to
What he has gained
Unwilling to give it all up
To move to her side.
Back when he had nothing
Giving it all up
Was easy to do.
Many times in the past
He has started from starch,
With no more then he had on his back.
But that is a young man’s game,
Youth he had left behind
With the many mistakes he had made.
Now the wisdom he has gained
Fights with the desire
In his heart.
He could afford another house,
But not the land
To hold his herd,
And his hounds would have
To live outside.
He wonders how much
Of himself
He would have to leave behind
When he sold it all away.
So much he fears
That he will just
Stay along.
She could move here,
But she just won’t, he thinks.
He could move there,
But he just won’t, she thinks.
So together along
They stay apart,
And together in love.
