A thing once was
But now gone
No matter
How long it was,
Be it Dragon or Mouse,
Is gone forever.
Compared to how
Long it was
~
Forever is infinite,
And was,is gone.
Forever gone,
Fades in time
To be near the same
In comparison,
Be it a day
Or a thousand years
~
Consider a Dandelion
And a mighty oak that lived
Hundreds of thousand
Years ago.
With each passing year
Their oblivion fades
~
Into the same infinity
Of gone.
No mark of their passing
Except for their descendants
Our only knowledge of them
Is the fact of their own existence
~
Now of Dragons gone
The way the Dinosaur
Into the echo of time
Time out of mind
With no descendants
To mark their having passed
~
Leaving only bones
To tell of the Dinosaur
And tells of magic and fear,
Of sorcery and Saints
Telling of the Dragons
Passing into the night
~
Today the mouse
Still scuttles about
And except for,
“Hickory dicker dock”,
Mickey and Minnie
Rartoulen and Flushed Away
~
They enter not into our hearts
But the Dragons
Ah now, that is a different story
We paint their pictures
And tell their tells
Making heroes of their slayers!
~
Man or mouse?
Do we scamper about
Fearful of shadows,
Or do we seek out our Dragon
To conquer our fears
And be Sanctified by our actions?
~
But then sometimes,
Like Don Quixote,
We think we are fighting Dragons
When we are not
Just tilting at our perceptions
But fighting the good fight.
~
As we pass into what was
To be forever gone
Not even the faint of a memory
As the years leaves us not only
Cold in our graves, but rotted away,
Awaiting the return of our Lord.
